A BRIEF PROFILE OF MOSES ESSIEN
Moses
Essien was born to the family of Late Okon Udo Essien of Nung
Ukim Ikot Udom in Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State,
on 27th December, 1966. He was educated at Hope Waddell Training
Institute, Calabar and St. Columbanus Secondary School, Ikwen,
Ikot Ekpene. He is a graduate of the University of Calabar and
the University of Ibadan where he studied for Bachelors Degree
in Political Science and Masters Degree in Political Science (International
Relations) respectively. He is currently a research fellow at
the University of Ibadan.
Moses Essien is a consultant analyst on Intelligence, Security
and Defence matters. He was appointed Commissioner for Education,
Youths and Sports and member of Akwa Ibom State Executive council
in 1997 and later as Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister
for Education, Federal Ministry of Education in 1999. He was also
appointed Chairman, Federal Government Panel on the Eradication
of Secret Cults in Federal Universities and Polytechnics and served
as member of the Federal Government Panel on the monitoring of
Federal Universities in Nigeria.
As Commissioner for Education, Youths and Sports, Moses Essien
initiated and established the Akwa Ibom State School of Remedial
Studies, now Akwa Ibom State College of Arts and Science, which
today is a centre of excellence. He restored the fundamental values
of discipline, sanity and efficiency back to the educational system
and ensured the dignity of teachers and the teaching profession
in Akwa Ibom State.
Moses Essien, as he would simply want to be called, has pioneered
several community projects, awarded scholarships and sponsored
Akwa Ibom State indigenes for complete training at various educational
levels.
He has distinguished himself as a philanthropist par excellence,
a scholar, a successful business administrator, a God fearing
Christian and a loving husband.
In 2003, Moses Essien contested for the Governorship seat of Akwa
Ibom State on the platform of the ruling People's Democratic Party
(P.D.P) and is now vying for the same office on the platform of
the P.D.P.
Moses Essien is a leader of inestimable value, imbued with vision,
mission, strength of character and passion to alleviate the sufferings
of the masses. He is well known for his humility, result-oriented
God fearing leadership and is poised to transform Akwa Ibom State
to one of the best in the world.
